Diane Riley’s career fields have included, among others, journalism (former editor and staff writer of a daily newspaper), education (former high school English teacher), freelance writing, and prepress publishing (proofreader). She also was a freelance proofreader and copy editor, working with a number of book publishers, and continues to work with one publisher.

She is a member of the Women Fiction Writers Association (WFWA), Gutsy Great Novelists, and the NH Writers Project. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a Master of Education degree (English, middle and high school).

She collects old cookbooks for both the recipes and for imagined trips to the past where family meals were hearty and healthy—sometimes even a bit strange (e.g., head cheese). Her favorite podcasts are The Shit No One Tells You about Writing, Hear Us Roar (sponsored by WFWA), Wait Wait . . . Don’t Tell Me, and anything Beatles.
After dealing in therapy with her own background of abuse, she trained to help women who struggle with current and past abuse, led support groups, spoke at churches about helping the abused in their own congregations, and volunteered at a violence prevention agency. Her volunteer work now focuses on Feeding Tiny Tummies, which provides items for food-insecure families.
On the personal side, she is a survivor of ovarian cancer and among those who share their stories with medical students and other healthcare professionals as part of Survivors Teaching Students (STS). In the program, survivors share experiences with diagnosis and treatment of ovarian cancer, considered a “whispering killer” because of the lack of clear symptoms, often leading to diagnosis at advanced stages.
She lives in New Hampshire with her husband and pets, and with grown children and grandchildren near by. When she’s not writing, she can be found knitting, reading, baking, volunteering, and walking her dog, among other activities.
